For the nth time. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather’s match will not be possible again. Few days ago Manny told reporters that he asked Mayweather to push through the fight with the deal under 50-50 basis. Many believed that the Pacquiao’s offer is the best way to do the fight, fair and square.
From Sportscenter, “He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen,” says Mayweather. Mayweather seems determined that he must earn more if the fight will happen. On the other hand Manny is also firm on his 50-50 offer, it’s not an issue to him if Floyd will accept it or not, he’ll fight someone else. Pacquiao also said that he already chose his next opponent, we just have to wait for Bob Arum’s announcement. The boxers Pacquiao may choose are Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley and Lamont Peterson but as of now probably it will be Miguel Cotto.

Any of these three possible fights–Pacquao vs. Mayweather, Pacquiao vs. Cotto rematch, or Cotto vs. Mayweather–are mouth-watering! I would prefer Cotto vs. Mayweather first and then the winner could fight Pacquiao. Why won’t anyone suggest a round-robin type of set up whereby Cotto fights Mayweather while Pacquiao fights either Victor Ortiz or Canelo Alvarez and the two winners fight each other for the two or three belts and a 50-50 purse split?! I think Cotto has a better chance of beating Mayweather than Pacquiao in a rematch. Mayweather looked “hitable” in his last defense–a strong Victor Ortiz. Cotto looked strong at 154 against Margarito and could give Mayweather a tough fight.
